This course teaches how to draw the pattern of handmade shoes step by step and how to sew the different pieces by machine. Knowing how to make the technical pattern of a classic model is the previous step to designing models that are functional.

Contents

The course begins by drawing piece-by-piece one of the classic models of shoes. Those pieces are then cut in leather and sewn by machine. This leather pattern is then ready for assembly. This other technique can be learned in the Shoe construction course, also available.

About the teachers and the place

Qualified master shoemakers, Ignacio Aldanondo and Catuxa Fernández, have received the National Prize for Innovation in Crafts in 2019. The classes are face-to-face at Aldanondo y Fdez’s atelier at calle Notariat, 5 in Barcelona (Rabal area, near MACBA museum).

What does the pattern making course include?

• The leather and other materials that are needed to pattern and sew a first model.
• The use of the required tools and machines.
• Individual monitoring. Sessions of maximum two apprentices with each teacher.

Duration

From 15 hours. The duration and subject matter is adapted to the pace of the student.
